Running the world

New York, Berlin, Chicago, Boston, London, Tokyo - this website is dedicated to my long journey around the world in my quest to complete all six World Major Marathons and earn the coveted Six-Star Medal. I share my story of highs and lows at the Majors - and the many miles in between.

How it started - my 40th birthday bash

It was a foggy Saturday in October 2014. Surrounded by friends and family at my 40th birthday party in a cozy Munich bar, Frank Sinatra’s „New York, New York“ all of the sudden blasted through the speakers. My wife Barbara was bringing in a decorated cake and moments later I learned that I was going to be participating in the 2015 New York Marathon.

New York, New York.

A fun story about the New York Marathon: My wife Barbara joined me on the course for the last few miles and actually crossed the finish line with me. Minion, Barbara and I were happy to have made it.

Bracing for the Boston elements

Torrential rain, jungle-like humidity, heavy winds. In terms of weather, the Boston Marathon always has surprises in store. And 2019 was no different. Before the race, I closely watched the weather forecasts, debating race attire.

What a windy city

With some good friends joining me for the 2018 marathon in Chicago, race weekend was an amazing all around experience. And what a city Chicago is. Overall, it's my favorite World Major. No offense to all the other great ones  ....
