Training and race prep
Training for the New York City Marathon went great – until it didn’t, late in the cycle. In addition to starting a cool, new job in August (which, however, required a lot of traveling), some bad health issues struck. I suffered from an abscess in September, which sidelined me for 2.5 weeks. Shortly after I was up and running again, in October, a bad head cold knocked me out – and hung around until my departure to the Big Apple.
((I want to stress - this is not to complain or give excuses: niggles and injuries are part of the journey. Hardly any marathon training cycle goes by without them. But at the same time, they are part of my New York 2015 story.))
Despite all this, I had trained enough and was sufficiently ready -- and very excited. Plus, with my wife and sister-in-law and brother-in-law in toe I had the best imaginable support team. Turns out, I would need it...
